Our 2012 has been awesome so far. The husband and I were having a conversation about how the past four months has been. We are running more, mountain biking more (for the husband), trail running more and just being healthy, period. I love it! I’m somewhat getting leaner as well, with only a few more fats to burn. We are on our way to joining half and full marathons. I’m just excited and super happy. With determination and disciple, we are getting there – one step at a time. I have been running on and off since 2005 but I have never been this serious and determined in my life. It started a year ago and this 2012, I have been doing 20-30 miles a week. We are not getting any younger that is why we make sure that we do our yearly check-up with our respective doctors and we are also looking for term life insurance quote because it is time to get life insurances for us both. We’ve been thinking of that since last year and we have to finally do it this year!

Devastated: Lakers!

Yesterday, the husband and I went on an easy 3-mile run during the Lakers game. When we left the house, the game has already started – it was about 9 mins left in the first quarter and it was a close game, thank goodness! When we got home , the husband immediately turned on the television and it was still a close game. In fact, I think the Lakers were on top by 2 points. We had dinner and my mother-in-law was watching American Idol so we opted to just watch the game after dinner (it was being recorded at the time, anyway.) I had confidence that the Lakers will prevail and win one in Oklahoma. As soon as we finished eating, the game just ended and it was so heartbreaking. It was such a close game but due to turnovers and shots not being made, Lakers lost! It is now 2-0, Oklahoma Thunders. Game 3 is tomorrow, Friday at Staples. I hope that we can defend OUR homecourt, Lakers!!!! Let’s go!!!!

Fire Service Day/ National Police Week

Last Saturday, I went for a walk to the grocery and Farmer’s Market to buy some goodies. I love doing this early morning walks (when I am not out running) because the air is so cool and the sun isn’t out yet. While walking by the Police Station, I saw that the road is closed and that there might be some event going on. It was still early when I walked passed the street so they were still organizing and setting up. Walking back to the Farmer’s Market, I saw that there were fire trucks and police cars out on the street for people especially the little kids to look at and even sit at the back seat of a police car. The fire trucks were out as well. I saw this picture online where a little one, with assistance of a fireman, was able to see and hold a firehose. Awesome experience!

Yesterday’s game was quite devastating. We couldn’t bear the 2 digit Oklahoma Thunders lead after half time, so we watched Dancing with the Stars instead. But I am hoping that the Lakers win in Game 2. At least get one game at the Ford Center in Oklahoma before heading to Staples. Let’s go Lakers!!

Party Rock

This weekend, my wonderful husband and I are participating in a 10k event in preparation for our upcoming half marathon. I am so excited to run. As you might have guessed and gathered from my previous posts, I love to run! I’ll have to post pics after the race. So that’s all happening this weekend, next weekend we are invited at a friend’s daughter’s 7th birthday party and another friend’s birthday. After our running weekend, we then have a party weekend . I’ll have to remember to buy gifts for both parties. I still have 2 weeks to do it. I just hope I won’t forget. I want to get my friend maternity dresses since she is 4 months pregnant. I’m thinking of getting here something for her and a maternity dress that she can wear while pregnant. For the girl, maybe a nice Hello Kitty or some dresses I saw online. It’s so much easier to buy gifts for girls!

Orochon Ramen

After Sunday mass, the husband and I ate at Orochon Ramen, our first time to try this place. I’ve had Japanese Ramen before and I am a loyal Daikokuya fan. They just recently opened so the place is very clean and has a nice ambiance. I really love the “secret drawers” on the table – it has straws, napkins and chopstick. Such a neat idea! That way, you don’t have to get the attention or ask the waiters for any of those 3 – you just simply open the drawer located on your table and Voila, everything you need is there!

I tried no. 3 and obviously I didn’t pay much attention to the menu. I thought that no.4 was the “regular” one so I said I’ll try no. 3, instead. Heck, it was spicy! Note to self: read the menu carefully next time and maybe try no. 5 or 6!! Husband tried no.5 and he said it was spicy for him, so I might try that next time.

I really want to go back and try it again. :)

That’s what I need to do with my running wardrobe. I’ve noticed that I have to make more room for my running gears lately plus I need a few more running shorts, capris, tights and shirts. Oh, and a new cap too. I have all my shoes geared up although I would like to try the Brooks Ravenna too but for now my trail and other running shoes would keep me running for a few months. When I told my friend about this, he said that he too needs to do something to his closet. He said he needed new jeans because he’s hooked on running too and his old jeans are a little loose now. He said he saw some carhartt jeans that he can probably add to his new wardrobe, while I have to look for more running clothes for my husband and myself.

LA River Fun Run

This weekend, my husband and I are participating and volunteering in the LA River Fun Run, organized by A Runner’s Circle. I am excited for this event. It’s the first ever LA River Fun Run event and I hope it won’t be the last. The event is now sold out after more than 400 participants signed up. This is a great way to support the LA River because all proceeds will go to the beautification and restoration of the river and the organizations that are actively participating in this cause.

Motorcycle, anyone?

Long time ago, my husband had a motorcycle – the Yamaha R6 to be specific, but after an accident he decided to just stick to his ever reliable car and try mountain biking instead. Now, he is super happy being a mountain biker. He can’t go on a week without mountain biking. It’s a must in his weekly schedule. A friend of my husband called the night before we go to Monterey for Sea Otter and asked my husband to look for a motorcycle helmet for him at the expo since it maybe a bit cheaper there than buying at a store. Unfortunately, all the helmets we saw at the expo were for mountain biking or road biking. They were for biking, period. The only motorcycle I saw was this one in the picture for the Specialized booth.

but it was more for motocross, I think. I told my husband to tell his friend to look for a motorcycle helmet online. He might be able to get a better price that going to a store. I’m sure he’ll be able to find what he’s looking for online!
